The Education Option

What is The Education Option? The Education Option is for parents who want the home school experience, but can not stay home to teach their children. Therefore, the parents pay The Education Option to do it for them. This program is run by Charis Caughey, a credentialed teacher, and three assistants. The program is located in the home of Charis Caughey, off Peaceful Valley Rd, in Sonora, and has very limited enrollment.

The Education Option offers two programs: The Summer Kindergarten Readiness Program, for children ages 4-6, and The Education Option Program, for school-aged children.

Summer Kindergarten Readiness Program:

June, July, and August
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays
9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
For children ages 4-6
This program will advance YOUR child to the top of the class!
Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Computers, P.E., and more!
$30 per day* (includes snack & lunch)

The Education Option (for school-aged children):

Traditional School Calendar (middle of Aug.- end of May)
M-F 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Free classes M-Th, from GRCS, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.)
Now accepting Kindergarteners, and 5^th-8^th graders
I will move up with the Kindergarteners, through grade 4
$365 per month*

About The Education Option:

I used to teach at traditional public schools. I started the Education Option because I didn't feel like I had any options for the education of my soon to be kindergarten daughter, Alyssa, and my younger daughter, Megan. I wanted something more than the one teacher and 20-30 students per class. I also wanted my children to learn at their own pace, not the pace of the classroom. Therefore, I began the Education Option.

The Education Option is a program where every child learns at their fullest potential (not the average of the class). Their grade has nothing to do with the level they are placed at; every child is assessed and placed accordingly, in every subject. They are challenged to their fullest potential, and therefore, not bored or overwhelmed!

The best part of this program, besides the great ratio of 3-4 teachers to 14 students, is the fact we go on field trips every week! Seeing is learning, experiencing is remembering, and we do it all! We learn about Social Studies and Science topics in class, and then we go see it and do it. It is amazing!

Another great aspect of The Education Option is the fact that we have ten computers that every student uses every day. Technology is our future! They are taught Spanish as well. In California, knowing Spanish will really help them get a job when they graduate. The long lost subjects of PE, Art, and Science are an aspect of life at The Education Option every day! The students are fit for academics as well as life (health).

*Gold Rush Charter School is a public school and attendance is paid for by the state of California. There is no charge for educational services to those enrolled in Gold Rush Charter School. Students enrolled in Gold Rush Charter School and The Education Option will receive education related services from 9am – 2pm Monday through Thursday and services provided outside those hours are provided by The Education Option. The Education Option operates independently of Gold Rush Charter School and provides enrichment and child care services. Mrs. Caughey is paid for educational services provided during school hours by Gold Rush Charter School. Parents will contract directly and pay The Education Option for child care and enrichment services. The Education Option services are separate and are not services of Gold Rush Charter School.
