About Me

In the 80’s, while raising our family, I worked in middle management banking. In 1999,(17 yrs. and 5 mergers later) I tendered my resignation. I took a well needed year off from the work force. Our children had long since married and begun their own families, college and careers.

Kathleen Hansen (my personal friend of 25 years) got together with Jim Gallno, Eda Pardee (another personal friend) and Tom Changnon, then Superintendent of Keyes Union Elementary School District in California. All of these wonderful people combined their efforts and formed a team that co-founded Gold Rush Charter School. When Kate (Kathleen) approached my husband to design the Gold Rush logo (that you now see on our signage, letterhead, web page, brochure, etc.), she mentioned needing someone to help in the reception area to answer phones until she could formally hire someone for the position. Would I be interested? Sure! I’ll help out. She only needs me for a couple of weeks! This was back in August of 2001.

Well guess what? Eight years later I am still here! We’ve had our growing pains along the way, but I can honestly say that as a Gold Rush team we have come into our own. My position in answering phones (as a favor to my friend, Kate) has long since evolved into becoming personal assistant to both Kate and Jim as well as managing four offices located on our campus.

Some of my duties include; Human Resources, Payroll, Student Enrollment & Attendance, CSIS (CALPADS) District Coordinator and Confidential Secretary to our Board of Trustees.

During my year off from the banking industry, I studied and became licensed to teach Traffic Violator School for the State of California to those unfortunate souls who are issued tickets for moving violations. I found it easy to move this knowledge over to Gold Rush and have taught Driver Education to our 10th + grade students for the past 7 years.

The success stories of our students are truly an inspiration. The dream that Kate Hansen & Jim Gallno had back in 1999 has come true and as a direct result, continues to provide a safe and stimulating learning environment for our students. I fully support their goal to make students life-long learners.

All in all, I have enjoyed watching our school grow and consider it a privilege to have been involved with Gold Rush Charter School from the very beginning.
